The Samsung UN46B6000 is a 46-inch LCD HDTV whose main feature is the fat that it is just 1.2-inches thick. This svelte profile is made possible by the use of of LED lights, which need less room than the more common CCFL backlights. The UN46B6000 sports a simple and elegant design, with a black finish that has red highlights. The thin form factor and LED backlights do come at a premium, as the Samsung UN46B6000 has a suggested retail price of $2,800, although you can find it for as little as $2,100.
The Samsung UN46B6000's ports are arranged in a reverse L format on the back of the television, with some pointing downwards and some pointing out to the left side of the HDTV. The selection of ports is weighted heavily towards more modern connections with four HDMI ports, 2 USB ports and a LAN port for connecting to the Internet and home networks. There's only a single component input, which also does double duty as a composite video input, and no S-video input. This means that if you have a lot of devices that require older connections the UN46B6000 might not be a good pick for you as you can only connect one of them. One of the UN46B6000's signature features is the ability to play music, video and photos from USB devices or over the network. You can also access internet content via a Yahoo widgets system, although the selection is limited.
The Samsung UN46B6000 did a good job offering deep blacks and bright whites. These combine to produce a very wide contrast ratio, , and we were also mostly happy with the color performance from the television. There was no undue blue or yellow tinge to the whites on screen and the red, blue and green performance, which are the three primary colors a television combines to create every other color, were also accurate. There was a problem with the color gamut, which results in some colors looking a little inaccurate, although to be fair most HDTVs have trouble in this area.
